FAQs
I have a pain in my pelvis, doctor, and I’m beginning to leak. What’s the best book to help me?
The best way to understand what causes pelvic floor conditions and how to fix them, is to read Patricia Skilling’s book ”home and dry”, available at any good online bookstore.
The pain in my pelvis just won’t go away no matter painkillers I take. What is happening Doctor?
Chronic pelvic pain affects up to 20% of all women. It has many different forms and different names, bladder pain, pain in the tail bone, pain in the lower abdomen, pain on deep penetration on intercourse, pain at the entrance to the vagina. The cause is all the same- loose ligaments in the back part of the vagina. This can be easily proved by placing a large tampon into the back part of the vagina. How this works: the tampon supports the loose ligaments and this allows the muscles to “grip” and work properly. In 70-80% of women the pain is improved.
Just recently I have had to get up 5 or 6 times every night to go to the toilet. I don’t do very much. In the morning I feel exhausted. Is there anything I can do?
You are suffering from Nocturia which affects 50% of women over 80 years. It is often associated with chronic pelvic pain. The cause is the same as chronic pelvic pain- loose ligaments in the back part of the vagina. This can be easily proved by placing a large tampon into the back part of the vagina. The tampon works the same way as for pain: it supports the loose ligaments and this allows the muscles to “grip” and work properly. In 70-80% of women the pain is improved.
Patricia Skilling’s pelvic floor exercises can be very effective in young women. Sadly, not for older women, as the collagen in their ligaments is usually deficient.
I seem to want to go to the bathroom all the time, and have to rush to get there. What’s happening to my bladder doctor? I have tried to limit the amount I drink but it doesn’t help!
You are suffering from Urge incontinence Also known as “overactive bladder”. It affects 20-30% of women and is much worse after the menopause. The woman cannot control her bladder, feels an urge and may wet before she arrives at the toilet. The main cause is damaged ligaments, either in the front or back of the pelvis. A tampon will relieve the urge if the cause is loose or damaged back ligaments.Patricia Skilling’s pelvic floor exercises can be very effective in younger women. Sadly, not for older women, as the collagen in their ligaments is usually deficient.

The two main types of Bowel problems are constipation and involuntarily losing air, liquid or solid. These conditions co-occur with the bladder and indeed, are caused by the same front or back ligaments. The treatment is similar to that for bladder conditions
